PINet / PI on PINet Overview

PINet/VMS (PI-PN or PI-API-OVMS) provides support for distributed applications to the PI System. Such distributed applications are generally data acquisition instrument interface programs written originally for the PI 2.x System running on the OpenVMS operating system.

The PI on PINet package (PI PN) allows parts of a PI 2.x for OpenVMS display and menu system to run transparently on a PINet node. This allows distribution of computer load associated with user terminals and X Window sessions. It allows users familiar with the display system and certain optional server applications to continue using them when migrating the PI Home Node from OpenVMS to PI Server. Distributing the display system may also provide more autonomy for management of users and change in a distributed environment.
