Alert
AL00325 - Potential deletion of notification rules and rule templates after upgrading to PI AF Services 2016 R2, 2017, and 2017 SP1
2017-07-17

Summary

An earlier alert AL00323 describes specific PI AF upgrade scenarios that may lead to the unintended deletion of notification rules and notification rule templates.

An additional issue may affect you if you upgraded from PI AF Server 2015R2 or earlier to any of the following three versions of PI AF Services:

  • PI AF Services 2016 R2
  • PI AF Services 2017
  • PI AF Services 2017 SP1
After upgrading, if you created notification rules and/or notification rule templates, running the installer’s “Repair” option or re-executing the PI AF Installation SQL scripts can cause the unintended deletion of notification rules and notification rule templates.

Solution

OSIsoft has released PI AF Services 2017 SP1a install kit, which customers can run to correct this issue.

If you are not able to upgrade to PI AF Services 2017 SP1a, then apply the following SQL update to an existing PI AF 2016 R2 (v2.8.5), PI AF 2017 (v2.9.0) and PI AF 2017 SP1 (v2.9.1) installation.

To apply the update

  1. Download the SQL Update script.
  2. Execute the script from Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio against the PIFD database. You can also execute it by entering the following instruction from a command prompt. (Replace <sqlname> and <sqlinstancename> as appropriate for your installation.)
-sqlcmd -S <sqlname>\<sqlinstancename> -d PIFD –i SQLUpdate_AF2016R2_AF2017_AF2017SP1.sql
