AL00331 - PI Data Archive 2017 R2 will not install on certain non-English operating systems

(Updated January 8, 2018)

The PI Data Archive 2017 R2A install kit is now available as a replacement for the PI Data Archive 2017 R2 install kit, which failed to install for some non-English language customers. The new install kit fixes a limitation that prevented installation when the Windows local default group named “Users” was missing or named something other than “Users.” There are no other changes to the software.

Use the PI Data Archive 2017 R2A install kit for any new installations. If you have already installed PI Data Archive 2017 R2 without problems, you do not need to run the new install kit.

(December 29, 2017)

The following issue has been reported on both Spanish and Portuguese operating systems. Other non-English operating systems are affected depending on Windows translation of the “Users” group.  A temporary workaround is available until a new setup kit can be constructed.

PI Data Archive 2017 R2 installations fail with the error:
User Cancelled PI Data Archive 2017 R2 Setup
The setup has stopped prematurely and cannot continue. The specific module cancelled is identified below.
The PI Data Archive row in the installation output indicates it is not installed.

If you look at the installation log for the PI Data Archive Server called “SetupPIServer_X64.log” (located in the %PIHOME%\dat\ folder), you find following error:
Error 1609. An error occurred while applying security settings. Users is not a valid user or group. This could be a problem with the package, or a problem connecting to a domain controller on the network. Check your network connection and click Retry, or Cancel to end the install. Unable to locate the user's SID, system error 1332
